Viscount (seit 1946) A. of B., britischer Feldmarschall (seit 1944), * Bagnères-de-Bigorre (Frankreich) 23. 7. 1883, ✝ Hartley Wintney (Hampshire) 17. 6. 1963; im Zweiten Weltkrieg von September 1939 bis Juni 1940 Kommandierender General des II. Korps der britischen Expeditionsarmee in Frankreich, deckte den britischen Rückzug aus Dünkirchen; seit Juli 1940 Oberbefehlshaber der Heimatarmee in Großbritannien; wurde im Dezember 1941 Chef des britischen Empire-Generalstabs und leitete in dieser Stellung die Operationen der britischen Streitkräfte bis zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges.
